Early Years Foundation Stage
Intent
At Freeland CE Primary we are passionate about our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) setting providing a rich, stimulating, and inclusive environment that nurtures every child's holistic development. We are committed to offering a curriculum that is broad, balanced, and tailored to meet the individual needs of each child, ensuring that every child experiences success in their learning journey.
Our intent is underpinned by our school vision, The Parable of the Mustard Seed (Matthew 13). We recognise that young children learn best in an environment that nurtures their spirit and challenges their potential. Through play, exploration, and first-hand experiences. We aim to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where children feel safe, valued, and inspired to explore, discover, and develop a love for learning.
Implement
The implementation of our EYFS curriculum is planned and delivered by a team of skilled practitioners who create a stimulating environment that encourages curiosity, independence, and creativity, enabling children to make choices and take risks in their learning.
Our thematic curriculum incorporates the seven areas of learning and development into our daily activities. Through a combination of child-initiated and adult-led activities, we scaffold children's learning, providing them with opportunities to develop their communication, physical, social, and emotional skills in a holistic manner.
Our observation and assessment practices are thorough and continuous, enabling us to track each child's progress accurately and tailor our provision to meet their changing needs. This ensures that the children in our provision are “keeping up” not “catching up”. We involve parents and carers in their child's learning journey, valuing their input and working in collaboration to support each child's development effectively.
Impact
The impact of our EYFS provision is evident in the progress and outcomes achieved by the children in our setting. Through our nurturing ethos and high-quality teaching, children develop strong communication skills, physical abilities and emotional intelligence, building strong foundations for future success in school and beyond.
Our children demonstrate confidence, resilience, and a love for learning, as evidenced by their high levels of engagement, independence, and enthusiasm for exploration. They show a deep understanding of concepts, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with their peers.
Our assessment processes allow us to identify and address any gaps in learning promptly, ensuring that every child receives the support they need to thrive. We celebrate and recognise each child's achievements, fostering a positive attitude towards learning and celebrating their uniqueness.
In conclusion, our EYFS provision prepares children for future success and lays a solid foundation for lifelong learning. Our commitment to continuous improvement and reflective practice ensures that we uphold the highest standards and deliver an exceptional educational experience for every child in our care.
